The Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) is Alberta’s private sector privacy Act. It establishes a
framework for a consistent set of privacy principles and standards on how personal information is collected, used,
disclosed and protected by an organization. As a self-governing professional association AHEA follows the provisions
of the PIPA.

AHEA Privacy PolicyFurther to the aforementioned AHEA Privacy Statement, the Alberta Human Ecology and Home Economics Association has an obligation to collect, store, process and use information from its members for appropriate purposes. Information is first gathered in the application process and is updated annually. Members are requested to update AHEA of personal information changes prior to renewal. Within the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act (POARA), Human Ecologist and Home Economist Regulation, the Registrar must maintain a register of professional and candidate members. A Roster of member names and professional status (eg. PHEc) may be published for the public. Contact information including phone numbers and addresses may be published for the sole use of members. If a member of the public requests contact with a member, or a member’s contact information, the member concerned will be contacted for permission to disclose or given the information to pursue as they feel appropriate. AHEA also maintains a professional file for each member. This includes information that was submitted upon application as well as a record of association involvement, employment and other activities as submitted and updated by the member. Information obtained through the Continuing Competency Program is also kept in the member’s professional file. Note: The Mutual Recognition Agreement allows for the transfer of professional members between provincial associations with regulatory authority and requires the member who is transferring to have a professional file. Member information is stored both in hard copy format and electronically. It is kept with the Registrar and is accessible by officers and other appointed representatives of AHEA as needed to conduct the work of the association. AHEA maintains a website at www.ahea.ab.ca. Like many other web sites, AHEA uses an Internet tool called a “cookie” within the Members’ area to track activity on the site. Cookies are small pieces of information that a website sends to a computer to track statistics on use of the site. On the website AHEA also provides links to other web sites that are considered to provide useful information but is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of these web sites. |
