Mentoring Program

Our mentoring program is aimed at supporting a Human Ecology/Home Economics student or AHEA member to develop and achieve their career goals.

Human Ecology student/Nutrition and Food Science student members or AHEA members who have not had the benefit of the Candidate program are eligible to participate in the mentoring program.

Volunteer mentoring provides rewards and learning for both mentors and students through sharing of ideas, learning from each other, support of personal growth and development of a stronger network within AHEA.

AHEA Mentors will earn three PDU's for participation.

I Want To Have A Mentor

The Mentoring Program is aimed at current members and Human Ecology and Nutrition and Food Science Students who would benefit from being able to:

  • Gain a better understanding of the profession
  • Help with establishing career goals
  • Explore different areas of the profession
  • Develop networking skills
  • Develop positive relationships with professional human ecologists and home economists

Students who are interested are asked to complete an AHEA student membership form and a profile indicating what they'd like to gain from the mentoring experience. Current members will submit a profile form only. Next the individual is matched with a mentor who they will meet within the first month to confirm fit. Participants and mentors will connect 2-4 times a month in a manner convenient to them - email, telephone or meetings. The mentoring relationship is expected to last 6-12 months, depending on the participant's needs and interests.

A member of the Mentoring Committee will contact the participant and the mentor after 6 weeks to find out how the relationship is going. At any time a mentor or participant can contact the Mentoring Committee with questions.

Anyone interested in more information about this program can contact .
